4C signs major contract to supply US Army’s future training management system

2021-08-18

4C Strategies is proud to announce that the Exonaut software has been selected for use in a $192M contract awarded to Cole Engineering Services, Inc (CESI) by the US ArmyProgram Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). Exonaut will form the foundation of the US Army’s training management as part of a larger, fully integrated Training Simulation Software / Training Management Tool (TSS/TMT) that will be rolled out by 2023. It is the fourth time that 4C Strategies have been part of a contract-winning team in the US for Exercise Planning and Assessment Capability (EPAC), cementing the company’s place in the market as the provider of the global de facto standard for military training management software.

Michael Coss, President of 4C North America, says, “We have dedicated a lot of time and resources to developing a solution that meets the needs and doctrine of the US Army. Once Exonaut is deployed, it will bring new levels of automation into training and exercises that promote the faster development of soldiers and increased combat capabilities of units and divisions. This will be achieved in a continual cycle of exercise planning, execution and assessment, in which lessons learned can be integrated and shared across units and battalions.”

The fully integrated, cloud-enabled training system will enable the US Army Warfighter to manage training in the Synthetic Training Environment (STE) and provide a foundation for future US Army Programs such as the new Live and Constructive environments under development by the US Army. The Exonaut solution will save Warfighters time and effort through automation and integration using the latest technology available.

“Security and scalability are central to the solution,” continues Coss. “Our Exonaut platform has adopted a Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) and containerised microservices to deliver unrivalled scalability, while remaining fully secure for highly sensitive military training. Our solution will be required to meet the highest security standards and our US development team has been working hard to make sure this is the case. We will provide a great solution for the Warfighter and I am sure there will be more work for us in this space in the years ahead. We are just getting started.”

Exonaut is designed and developed in the United States and Europe. A dedicated team of software engineers at 4C’s Orlando office work closely with their European counterparts in Sweden and the UK to develop the platform for the future. This cross-nation team ensures that 4C can tap into the best talent in each market, and with our DEVSECOPS environment our teams work seamlessly across nations with security measures in place for the programs that require this.

Speaking about the company’s continued growth in the military space, 4C Strategies CEO Magnus Bergqvist says, “We are extremely proud to win this contract. We entered the US market in 2016, with the aim of competing for these types of commissions. The US Army joins a growing list of Exonaut allied forces users that includes the British and Swedish Armies, who have both signed three+ year contract extensions, NATO, and most recently the US Marine Corps. It’s exciting times at 4C.”

The cloud-enabled nature of the TMT solution will make it accessible to everyone in the US Army and it is expected this will be enabled by a GovCloud solution for full scalability to all parts of the army.

“As somebody who proudly served in the U.S. Army and led troops in combat, it’s great to channel my skills and experience into a software solution that trains soldiers and ensures they are better prepared. I am looking forward to the continued collaboration with the talented Team CESI, the Government SMEs and the US Army to build the world’s best training system,” concludes Coss.
