Setting up wargames from scratch is a time-consuming process where data has to be gathered, scenarios need creating and resources have to be prepared. This limits the ability of many defence organisations to conduct frequent and adaptive wargames. 

Lack of wargaming expertise 

Not all users are wargaming experts, and complex interfaces make it difficult for them to effectively plan, execute, and derive value from simulations. 

Utilising fragmented data 

Data collected during wargames is often stored in silos, making it difficult to derive insights or visualise outcomes effectively across the entirety of the wargaming experience. This fragmentation reduces the overall value of wargames for decision support. 

Assessing outcomes 

Evaluating the effectiveness of wargames and understanding how scenarios impact strategic or tactical decisions is challenging, particularly without structured data-driven insights presented in easy-to-understand formats. 

Managing the costs of simulation software 

Budget constraints often limit the ability to conduct frequent wargames and fully utilise simulation tools due to the high costs associated with acquiring and maintaining simulation software and ensuring uptime. 

Vendor lock-In 

Many existing simulation management tools come with vendor lock-in, which restricts organisations to a specific provider’s capabilities. This lack of flexibility limits the ability to adapt simulations to evolving requirements or integrate with other tools and platforms that could deliver new features and benefits.
