4C Strategies’ military training management software solutions are in daily use by armed forces around the world to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of training and exercises. Not surprisingly, the person leading this work has had a long and distinguished military career, which is put to great use as Military Director for 4C Group.

Meet David Paterson.

30 years of military service

With over 30 years of service in the British Army, Brigadier (Ret’d) David Paterson has considerable experience in the design, delivery, evaluation and exploitation of military training and exercise management. His military career, as an infantryman in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, saw service in Germany, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Norway, Bosnia, Canada, Kenya, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2003 as Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded the Fusilier Battlegroup that led the British Division into Iraq.

Running British Army’s collective training

Subsequently, as a Colonel, he ran the British Army’s Collective Training in Germany where he was responsible for delivering the training of 1 (UK) Armoured Division and facilitating the training of the UK’s NATO HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (HQ ARRC). David also led the development of Land Concepts at the UK’s Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre, forecasting future military trends and defining the necessary capability requirements to counter emerging threats.

David Paterson
“Having spent 30 years serving my country, it was a natural step to move to 4C Strategies. I have transferred my experience from leading and training soldiers into the provision of digital solutions and services that help build the capabilities of allied forces around the world and ensure they are better prepared. We have a great team of people at 4C who believe in what they do and work hard to ensure that our customers get the most from our solutions.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) David Paterson OBE

Deputy Commander of London District

Promoted to Brigadier, he was appointed Deputy Commander of London District, where he had brigade command responsibility for the regular, reservist and cadet forces in London. An operational tour as Commanding General of the Combined Training Advisory Group (Army) in Afghanistan followed, where, over 11 months, he led the NATO and multinational team that trained and fielded tens of thousands of Afghan army recruits into operational units.

His last appointment in the British Army, was as Chief of Training for HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps where he was responsible for the training and development of the UK’s contribution to NATO. This included the ARRC’s certification by NATO as the High Readiness NATO Response Force in 2013.

Leading 4C Strategies Military segment

Since leaving the Army and joining 4C Strategies in 2014, David has been instrumental in the development of Exonaut® while leading the expansion of 4C Strategies’ Military segment. His knowledge and experience from operations, training and leadership continue to prove invaluable when designing new software capabilities in partnership with our military clients and together with our developers. David supports a team of highly skilled and experienced 4C consultants and software engineers – many of whom are ex-military personnel. They work on a daily basis across the globe with NATO and the British, US, Swedish, Australian, Norwegian, Swiss, and Finnish Armies, helping to develop and deliver their training and exercise management requirements.
