4C Strategies and Cubic provide unprecedented mobility to warfighters

4C connected the Exonaut® training and exercise management system to the Cubic deployed private Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to support an Australian army training exercise.

In October 2018, whilst deployed supporting an army field training exercise, 4C Strategies and Cubic, connected the Exonaut® training and exercise management system to the Cubic deployed private Long Term Evolution (LTE) network for the first time. Within hours the two technologies were coupled and it allowed users to operate Exonaut via the LTE connection in the most remote locations of the training area. This exciting development linking two cutting-edge training technologies will add real value to the users on the ground, such as:

  • Planners, exercise managers and observer controllers will be able to control training events and share a common exercise picture in real-time from their smart phone or tablet
  • Observers can submit observations and view feeds from exercise managers and other observers in real-time in the field
  • Exonaut communication features such as group chat, messaging and tasking will be available to all users within the LTE network
  • Our data visualisation and analytics module (RMP Dashboard) will be available at the fingertips of our users to provide evidence in support After Action Reviews conducted in the field

4C’s Exonaut Subject Matter Expert Ben Kinsella: “Getting these two technologies coupled was done in a matter of hours and I’ve no doubt our users will be able to do this on their own in the future; it was basically a plug and play operation. Cubic offer a unique capability that brings secure connectivity to the most austere and remote areas. The high bandwidth offered by the Cubic network will prove even more valuable when we integrate capabilities such as video streaming into the Exonaut system. We can now provide observers with analytics features on their tablets in the field, a real boost to their training data access in real-time”.

4C Strategies Research Manager Alexander Jarl: “Running Exonaut over the Cubic secure private LTE network will allow us to offer connectivity to widely distributed LVC exercises in a robust and secure way. With the existing capabilities in Exonaut to control and consume data from simulation systems and UAS vehicles, Cubics’ LTE solution willprovide field users in remote training locations with the same high bandwith support tools available to locally networks users. This is a testament to our innovative and agile partnership with Cubic– developing and delivering value on the fly.”

In all, great achievement by the field staff from our two companies and a demonstrable success for the partnership merging our technologies in new ways to add value to the warfighters.
