“Our work can help to ensure that things that must not happen, never happen”2019-10-08
Hi Åsa, you’ve been with us for a few weeks now, what are your initial impressions?
“They have been hectic and really interesting weeks and I’ve met so many people who are so skilled in different areas. The people here often have a very exciting background. Either they have worked in organisations where they have explored specialist areas, such as Christoffer Karsberg’s expertise on the NIS directive. Or they are from an interesting industry that we already have on the customer side, such as the armed forces. And then we have all our young colleagues studying political science or conflict management, who want to work with something which they are passionate about.”
What will you be working on here at 4C Strategies?
“My title is Head of Customer Growth. I have both a responsibility for our most senior consultants as well as an overarching responsibility for quality in our projects. I’ll be working on service development in partnership with our consultants, but then I’ll also be working in projects, just like everyone else at 4C Strategies.”
Tell us a little about your background!
“I have a degree in Economics and have worked for a handful of different IT companies, both within the public and the private sector, including the travel and finance sectors.
Over the past 10 years, I’ve had different types of consultant manager roles. Most recently I worked for the global IT supplier CGI where I was a consultant manager. The organisations I worked with there are very similar in many ways to those we work with here at 4C; municipalities, county councils and government authorities.”
What have you learnt from your previous positions that our customers can benefit from?
“One important thing, directly linked to 4C Strategies, is my experience from working in depth with risk and security. I have seen how my previous customers, and my employers, have prepared themselves for things that might happen in an entirely new way. These issues have been pushed further and further up the agenda in recent years.
Recently, we arranged a lecture at 4C Strategies by Gunnar Karlsson, former Head of the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service. Information security was one of the hot discussion topics and our offerings in this area look strong. 4C Strategies can also draw on a solid IT base built up since the company started out 20 years ago, with the development of the Exonaut software which is still a cornerstone of the company’s operations.”
Why do you think issues linked to risk and security are allocated more priority these days?
“I believe the general feeling is that we now live in more uncertain times. A climate that is becoming more capricious, a higher level of external threats, and digitalisation that is creating new forms of risk. But it is not just a feeling, things are happening in our society that we are not used to dealing with and that have had major consequences when they have occurred. Being prepared creates a sense of calm and resilience in the organisation, which is something that we are passionate about.”
Something we often return to is the “higher purpose” in what we do, what higher purpose can you see in working at 4C Strategies?
“We have a motto at 4C Strategies which is that we contribute to a safer society. When you start working on continuity and risk issues and analysing what the consequences of an event can be, for example if a hospital has a power outage, you start to realise that we are working on something that is really important. Our work can help to ensure that things that must not happen, never happen.”
What do you do when you’re not at work?
“I was brought up in Stockholm and I live with my husband on Södermalm. In the summer, I’m often at our summer cottage out in the Stockholm Archipelago. In the winter, I go skiing a lot, both downhill and cross-country.
Otherwise, I read a lot and listen to audiobooks. I have about a 30-minute walk to work, so a fairly easy-going detective story takes just enough of my concentration as I walk through town. But the last thing I read was the Swedish Security Service’s guide to protective security.”
A new job means new reading material on the bedside table?
“Yes, that’s right. Changing career is really exciting, much more fun than I thought. Having the chance to learn so many new things. 4C has been on an exciting journey so far and it is incredibly impressive to see both all the knowledge we have and our list of clients. 4C Strategies is successful abroad despite being a relatively small Swedish company. I already feel very proud of that.”
At 4C Strategies we are passionate about building a safer and more resilient society. We are expanding and constantly looking for new colleagues who can help us improve further.
